The Air Force selected the 482nd Security Forces Squadron as the 2007 USAF Outstanding Security Forces Reserve Unit for 2007, capping a fruitful year for the Homestead Defenders.

Maj. Gen. Allan R. Poulin, vice commander of Air Force Reserve Command, announced the award selection in a memo to commanders March 20. Each year the Air Force Reserve Command and Air National Guard nominate two of its units for consideration, and Air Force officials deemed the 482nd SFS as the finest.

The announcement comes after three squadron members garnered individual command-wide awards for 2007.

Senior Master Sgt. Wilfredo Vargas won the full-time senior non-commissioned officer category; Mr. Juan Lemus won the full-time civilian category; and Senior Airman Sergio Greco won the Elizabeth Jacobson Award for outstanding war-fighting contributions of first term Airmen.

The Security Forces plaques and decorations were presented by Lt. Col. Frank Locascio, 482nd SFS commander, and Col. Michael McCully, 482nd Mission Support Group commander on April 13.
