482nd Fighter Wing hosts Hurricane Hunters and Flying Jennies

Aircraft from the Air Force Reserve’s 403rd Wing, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., evacuated aircraft to Homestead Air Reserve Base to avoid heavy winds from Tropical Storm Fay on Aug. 22. The 403rd Wing, is comprised of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron's "Hurricane Hunters" and the 815th Airlift Squadron's "Flying Jennies.” The Hurricane Hunters are the only operational unit in the world flying weather reconnaissance on a routine basis. They provide surveillance of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Central Pacific for the National Hurricane Center. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tim Norton)
