Air Base Elementary celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Homestead High School Air Force JROTC Honor Guard presents the colors during a ceremony recognizing the 50th Anniversary of Air Base Elementary on Feb. 27. The elementary school was founded in 1958 on the former Homestead Air Force Base for children of military families. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, a federal magnet grant was approved in the summer of 1995 to keep the school from closing, and an International Education Magnet Program was created at the school.
