Operations amplified to support alert mission
Master Sgt. Angel Hidalgo, 482nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron flight chief, and Master Sgt. James Tant, 482nd Maintenance Squadron weapons loader, review paperwork at the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) alert facility at Homestead Air Reserve Base. Homestead pilots, maintainers and support personnel have volunteered to temporarily support “Operation Noble Eagle” with F-16 fighter jets in lieu of a detachment of Florida Air National Guardsmen based out of the 125th Fighter Wing, Jacksonville, Fla. The Guardsmen are normally assigned to the mission and fly and maintain F-15A fighter jets from Homestead ARB, but the entire Air Force fleet of about 670 F-15A through F-15D model fighter jets was grounded due to precautionary testing for airworthiness problems on Nov. 2.
