Homestead Air Force Base offers respite for Haiti earthquake victims

Rachel Florio, a Connecticut-native, hugs a Haitian-native, Jan. 20 at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla., before firefighters from the Miami-Dade Fire Department take him to a local hospital. The Haitian broke his ankle when he jumped off the roof of a two-story building during a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that devastated Haiti Jan. 12. The Air Force evacuated Ms. Florio and approximately 50 others from Haiti to Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla., as part as an international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief effort following the earthquake.
