Veterans Day, purposely set aside to remember the sacrifices and service of our nation's veterans and it is a special day indeed. We honor the men and women who have valiantly and selflessly devoted themselves to something greater than themselves - The United States of America, the greatest republic on earth.

It has been said many times that our constitution is written in blood rather than ink. We must never forget that our freedom is owed to those who chose to fight in order to preserve our liberty even though it may have cost them their lives.

A world without war is an appealing idea, however we need to remember that over the years our veterans have not only fought to preserve our freedoms, but have fought to liberate oppressed peoples, end genocide and topple terrorist regimes.

Veteran's Day is a day of celebration to honor America's veterans for their love of country, willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. From our Revolutionary War to the current War on Terror, men and women from all walks of life have shared a common bond to defend this nation...no matter the danger or enemy.

Our own 482nd Fighter Wing dedicated citizen airmen prepare to deploy once again in order to protect our freedom and way of life. Military members swear to support and defend the constitution of the United States and for this we owe them a debt of gratitude every day...not just on Veteran's Day.

Our Nations history is filled with stories of veterans' valor, brave actions and quiet courage. Service before self is an Air Force core value, but this concept is shared by all services and is the bond that has held all our veterans together throughout our history.

I thank and honor those today and everyday who have served, who serve now, and who will serve, for they are truly heroes.
