Reservists, base employees and family members had the chance to find job opportunities in the aviation industry at a job fair in Heritage Hall here July 14.

The Human Resource Development Council invited recruiters from several air cargo and services companies out of Miami International Airport to share information on employment with their organizations.

"It simply makes sense to find people with the types of experience and skills that are compatible with our industry," said Cindy Trunon of Arrow Cargo's human resources division.

This was the first job fair planned by the HRDC, and more are planned in other career fields, like law enforcement.

"This isn't about a lack of opportunity at the base," said Major Brian Abbott, project officer for the fair. "It's about giving reservists a look at what's available on the civilian side in our local community, not only for them but for their spouses."

He explained that while there are full-time positions, such as Air Reserve Technicians, they are not always available; and while the majority of traditional reservists do have full-time civilian employment, fluctuations in the market-place can impact the stability of their jobs.

Major Abbott pointed out that HRDC's goal with the fair is simple - provide options.

HRDC is comprised of unit representative of all ranks to enhance the mission and goals of the 482nd Fighter Wing through direct support initiatives. To learn more about the council and future job fairs, contact Lt. Col. Robert Delgado at (305) 224-7821 or Major Brian Abbott at (305) 224-7203.
