The 70th Aerial Port Squadron here shared in the promotion of Guy Lindholm to colonel Saturday morning, and said goodbye to him in the afternoon as Maj. Diana Echols assumed command of the squadron.

Col. Dennis Daley, special assistant to the commander, 482nd Fighter Wing, lauded Colonel Lindholm for accepting command of the 70th APS almost two years ago, leading them to their highest rating ever in a unit compliance inspection, and giving up a more desirable position to accept the challenge. "It truly speaks to his character and leadership," said Colonel Daley.

"I owe this all to you," said Colonel Lindholm, to those gathered for his promotion ceremony. "It is because each of you first achieved, then overachieved, that we have come this far."

At a change of command ceremony later in the day, Major Echols, echoed the theme of Colonel Lindholm. "We have many things in common," she said. "We share a sustained interest in excellence in the Air Force, and together we will move forward."

The major enlisted in the Air Force in 1984 and served in the enlisted ranks as a law enforcement specialist, F-4 and F-16 crew chief. She was commissioned in 1994 through the Deserving Airman Program and the Academy of Military Science. Since commissioning, the major has served as an executive officer, transportation officer, air freight officer and officer-in-charge of an operational readiness inspection team.

"I can't think of anybody better trained, qualified and motivated to take over command of the 70th," said Colonel Daley.

Colonel Lindholm has accepted a position as inspector general for the 301st Fighter Wing, Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas.
