Homestead Inn has reopened 58 rooms after completing a large-scale renovation project that will better suit the lodging needs of reservists for years to come.

The project refurbished all visiting quarters in Building 478 with new furniture, textured wall covering, decorations, carpeting and wireless Internet access in every room.

"The rooms really look brighter and fresher, and they're more comfortable now," said Mr. Ernest Stenson, Homestead Inn general manager. "We're already getting very positive feedback on customer feedback forms."

All existing Homestead Inn buildings are set for some form of refurbishment in the near future to better serve customers. Another project in the pipeline is a landscaping makeover to add to the aesthetic value.

The overhaul will also be complemented with the addition of a new building.

The $6.9 million, 37-room addition to Homestead Inn is currently under construction in the field adjacent to Heritage Hall Conference Center. The new lodging building - on track for completion next year - will be equipped with a lighted parking lot and will provide visiting quarters for distinguished guests and reservists alike. Consequently, fewer reservists will have to stay off-base in local hotels during future Unit Training Assembly weekends.

The improvements and additions to Homestead Inn are a great asset to the base, which has seen a growing population in the past few years.

It's extremely convenient for UTAs and members on their annual tour, and it's growing increasingly popular with the retired community. Military members assigned to tenant units on base and Heritage Hall conference attendees also utilize Homestead Inn, he said.

"Customers are getting a lot of value for their money. Thirty-three dollars per night is much lower than anywhere else in Homestead."
