Economic downturns and depressing financial statistics have been plaguing the world news arena for the past year. With so much focus on the negative, it's hard to imagine how one can pull ahead in these tough times. Well, brace yourself for the good news. Homestead Air Reserve Base has employment opportunities available. That's right, certifiable jobs

There are jobs available for military members and civilians and there are several avenues to find these positions. Currently Homestead Air Reserve Base employs various positions that are full time, part time, and temporary assignments.

"There are job openings currently available for 'Air Reserve Technicians' and civilian employees," Angella Laing, human resource specialist, explains.

"To apply to these jobs you have to go online to www.USAJOBS.gov," she said. "It is very important that once you go on to the website and apply to the positions that you remember to submit all the required documents listed. So often people don't complete the application by forgetting to submit all their documents and they don't get the job.

"Most jobs listed here are for 'ART' positions, which mean you have to be a military reservist. There are some civilian positions and once you get a job and are inside the system you can move much more freely to other positions," said Laing.

Then there is the obvious method for obtaining employment on an Air Reserve Base - enlist.

"Not only can you work on the base as a traditional reservist but civilian employers also look at the experience and discipline that military members have from their military experience. It is a great reference to put on a resume," said Senior Master Sgt. Rondey Bullock, senior recruiter.

High demand career fields are offering enlistment bonuses as an extra incentive for entering the Air Force Reserve and performing a job that is critical. Right now there are positions offering $15,000 to $20,000 sign on bonuses, said Bullock.

Another incentive for joining the Air Force Reserve is that in times of unemployment in a civilian career, reservists can find work on base in their units or deployments, he said. Regardless if you decide to join the Air Force Reserve, or just support it, there are numerous job opportunities available.
