In the early morning, just before the heat turns its full force upon South Florida, brave Airmen hit the tough terrain, fighting the good fight. Hard battles will be fought on land and through the air, long treks through shifting landscape and sand pits. It's not a training mission; rather, it is the 40th Annual Military Affairs Committee Golf Tournament.

On Oct 9, the MAC held its 40th Golf Tournament at the Redland Golf and Country Club. "This is our only fundraiser for the whole year," said Susan Newman, MAC member. We start planning this event a year in advance, right after the event commences. It is that important to our organization. It's our only fundraiser."

"Twenty-two teams, four players each, comprised the teams," said Robert Griffitts, MAC member and owner of Homestead Transfer and Storage. "We raise funds through various organizations and businesses participating with teams of three, and then we pair them with an Airman or service member who plays with the team for free."

The profits raised through the fundraiser help the MACfund various endeavors like military receptions, awards dinners, and Junior Officer Training Corps scholarships.
While the final tally on this year's net profits will not be released for several weeks, typically past years yield between six to eight thousand dollars, said Newman.

The MAC is comprised of Homestead Chamber of Commerce members who actively participate in ensuring the military's continued success in the South Florida area, said Griffitts.

Curently, the MAC has 39 members, but has a 50 person limit. "If anyone is interested in joining the MAC it is an excellent opportunity to do and see things very few are privileged to do. You also get to contribute to the continued success of the military," said Griffittis.
