City of Homestead Mayor Steve Bateman was treated to a 13,000 foot tandem jump with the world famous U.S. Army parachute team, The Golden Knights at Homestead Air Reserve Base on March 1.

Mayor Bateman was one of 15 Florida mayors from communities stretching from Orlando to Homestead, participating in the largest tandem jump of mayoral officials that the Golden Knights ever conducted. Although the event was originally planned for last Saturday, Mother Nature intervened and the majority of jumps had to be rescheduled for Monday.

After his jump the excited Bateman thanked the Golden Knights; "What a great team, what a great bunch of guys - Go Homestead! Go Army!"

On Saturday the mayors signed a U.S. Army Community Covenant formally expressing their community's support of the military and their families - Active, Guard and Reserve.

As part of the covenant signing, the mayors pledged to foster and sustain effective community relationships to improve the quality of life for military members and their families.

The parachute team wraps up their month and half winter training on March 3 and heads back to their home base at Ft Bragg, N.C. The demonstration team returns to Homestead ARB as one of the headline acts for the Wings over Homestead air show Nov. 6-7.
