On Aug 27, the Homestead Air Reserve Base Chapel team received the 2009 Air Force Reserve Command Chaplain Outstanding Core Program Award.

Competing with 30 other chapels, the 482nd Fighter Wing base chapel was selected for the prestigious award because of an impressive base impact.

The award was based on three elements of criteria; Impact on wing mission, training and decorations, and achievements.

"This was truly a team effort," said 482nd FW Chaplain Captain Brad Fink.

"We not only represent the chapel, but all of the Citizen Airmen of the 482nd Fighter Wing," said Wing Chaplain Major Vincent A. Cummings.

The award has not slowed down the chapel's progress.

"We also now have an electric vehicle which is going to assist us in having a greater presence around the base.  It is even equipped with a water cooler which will allow us to show up for physical training testing, give our support and provide water," said Chaplain Cummings. "It's important for us to show our support for those that make this base work - the Airmen."

"Another initiative implemented by the chapel is going to the troops instead of waiting for the troops to come to them. Unit Training Assemblies get very hectic, and people cannot always make it to a set service, so we are currently holding services at certain units," said Chaplain Fink.
