More than 1,500 people attended the base's second annual 4th of July celebration here, six times the attendance from last year.

People of all ages were treated to free food and souvenirs from sponsors as well as games, music and a spectacular fireworks display.

Games included bounce houses, rock climbing wall, a slide and bungee trampolines. Volunteers from the Air Force Reserve and Civil Air Patrol manned cotton candy, food and face-painting booths.

Col. Donald Lindberg, 482nd Fighter Wing Commander gave opening remarks during the event, thanking the men and women of the armed forces and reminding participants to be safe while having fun.

The event was open to all DOD card holders and their families. The turnout was much greater than anticipated, a pleasant surprise to the planners and organizers.
