Over 75 military members and families assigned to Homestead Air Reserve Base were guests at the final NASCAR Sprint Cup at Homestead-Miami Speedway Nov. 20.

The military members and their families were treated to a luncheon and a "meet and greet", with first lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden, who attended the event to help raise awareness for "Joining Forces"; an organization that encourages the hiring and training of veterans.

Afterward, guests were ushered into a private cabana to watch the race with Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden.

The first lady and the vice president's wife gave the famous instructions to the drivers: "Gentlemen, start your engines."

While addressing the invited military guests and families, the first lady said, "We want to make sure these families know that America has their back."

In the end, Tony Stewart won his third Sprint Cup championship after winning the season finale race holding off rival Carl Edwards for a tie in the final Sprint Cup Series standings.
