Homestead Air Reserve Base has become a simulated war zone, testing its Airmen by creating a deployed location with war-time activities.

Friends and neighbors of the base may hear the sound of freedom roaring a little earlier than normal, from simulated attacks, alarm signals, and actual jets launching. The surrounding public should not be alarmed as the base is participating in a 48-hour exercise.

Members have been preparing for the exercise by completing training and simulations on their modified Unit Training Assembly on Thursday and Friday.

The exercise began at midnight and will continue through Sunday.

"This is our first step for getting everyone ready for the Operational Readiness Inspection in May," said Lt. Col. Ted Munchmeyer, Commander, 482nd Fighter Wing Civil Engineering . "Our Airmen are motivated and prepared."
