70th APS welcomes new commander

During a brief ceremony, Maj. David C. Lionberger IV, assumed command of the 70th Aerial Port Squadron on Mar. 24. Col. Elwin A. Rozyskie Jr., Commander, 482nd Mission Support Group officiated the ceremony.

Prior to arriving at Homestead, Lionberger was the Chief of Logistics Readiness Plans for 10th Air Force, Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base. He was in charge of a diverse group of subject matter experts providing guidance to 10th Air Force units for deployment readiness, war plans, integrated deployment systems, war readiness materials, and support agreement management.

"Maj. Lionberger is bringing a lot of valuable logistic and leadership experience to the unit," said Chief Master Sgt. Tony Rodriguez, 70th Aerial Port Squadron. "Maj. Lionberger knows the units outstanding reputation and he is prepared to convey his own experience and knowledge as the unit commander to make us a more exceptional unit."

Lionberger enlisted in the active duty Air Force for six years immediately after graduating from Elmore County High School in Eclectic, Ala.  After leaving active duty, he joined the Air Force Reserve as a transportation journeyman with the 908th Logistics Support Squadron at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala.  In 1998, Lionberger graduated from Auburn University and  was selected for commissioning through the Deserving Airmen Commission Program.   He was then reassigned to the 25th Aerial Port Squadron also at Maxwell AFB.  Lionberger has filled various other positions in logistics and in 2011 completed a Master Degree in Business Administration from Columbia College. 

"I am truly honored and blessed to command such an outstanding unit," said Lionberger. "I am committed to giving this unit my best by being the leader and commander they deserve."
