Homestead Air Reserve Base is participating in the Office of Personnel Management's fourth annual Feds Feed Families Food Drive.

The food drive is currently underway and will run until Aug. 21.

Feds Feed Families is a voluntary effort undertaken by Federal employees across the country, who take time outside of their workday to collect and donate food and non-perishable items for food banks in their community.

Drop off locations are available at buildings 178, 180, 191, 200, 206, 213, 312, 360, 596, as well as the base fire department, temporary fitness center, and the Blazin Beans. Large donations should be brought to the temporary fitness center or building 213.

All items collected will be donated to the Homestead Community Partnership for the Homeless.

"This is a great opportunity to reach out to our local community by assisting those who need help the most," said Capt. Damien Miller, the Feds Feed Families Food Drive representative for HARB. "This program reaches a lot of people who are going through difficult times. It's also a great way to build a solid relationship between different agencies within the federal government and their local communities."

Items being requested for the food drive are any non-perishable food items such as: cereal, rice, beans, macaroni, spaghetti, instant mashed potatoes, ketchup, tomato sauce, coffee, juice, sugar, canned fruit, canned vegetables, vegetable oil, grits, oatmeal, pancake mix, syrup, and canned meat. Also disposable baby diapers are needed as well.

Last year the base donated over 1,000 pounds of various goods to HCPH.

To donate a pallet of any of the non-perishable items listed above or for more information, please call Capt. Miller at 786-415-7033.
