Homestead Air Reserve Base's 2012 Combined Federal Campaign drive is currently underway.

This year, Homestead ARB's drive runs until Dec. 15, with a goal of raising $36,617.37. Currently, the base has raised more than $17,000; roughly 46 percent of the total goal.

This year marks the 51st year of the CFC. The theme for the 2012 CFC is "We are the hope for a better tomorrow!" The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitably organizations. The mission of the CFC is to support and promote philanthropy through a voluntary program that is employee focused, cost efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

With more than 4,000 nonprofit organizations in which to donate, participants of the drive are sure to find a fitting charity. And as people are still reeling from the affects of the economy and a recent natural disaster, the CFC has come at a vital time.

"Federal employees have a long-standing tradition of selfless giving and now it is easier than ever through convenient payroll deductions," said 2nd Lt. Tyler Farrell, 482nd Fighter Wing CFC campaign manager. "With the effects of Hurricane Sandy still lingering, the CFC makes it easy to donate to the humanitarian effort of organizations such as the American Red Cross."

In 2011, federal employees raised more than $272.7 million for charitable causes around the world. At the local level, Homestead ARB exceeded its 2011 goal by roughly $10,000, totaling $36,265 in donations. Since its creation in 1961, the CFC has raised more than $7 billion for the charities designated by federal employees.

"The effort we give now will directly benefit the common good," said Farrell. "The CFC has a proven track record, being around for more than 50 years, and it's important now more than ever to donate."
