Homestead to welcome new wing commander

Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla., will welcome Col. Christian G. Funk as the new 482nd Fighter Wing commander during a change of command ceremony here July 14.

Funk, previously the 476th Fighter Group commander out of Moody Air Force Base, Ga., replaces Col. Donald R. Lindberg, who will assume his new role as the 10th Air Force vice commander at Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, Texas.

Funk comes to Homestead ARB with 28 years of service in the Air Force. He received his commission through the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1985. He began his career as an F-16 pilot in 1987 and has served as an operational test and evaluation pilot, fighter squadron director of operations and training, operations group chief of standardization and evaluation, fighter wing weapons and tactics officer, and an operations group commander. He has deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Desert Fox, Allied Force, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

Lindberg has served as the commander of the 482nd FW since July of 2010. He received his commission through the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1983. He attended Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, and was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate. He has served in a variety of flying and command assignments, having commanded at the flight, squadron and group levels. He has led and flew combat missions over Bosnia in support of Operations Deny Flight and Decisive, Operation Northern Watch over Iraq, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom.
