Base fights fire

There is currently a contained fire causing smoke on Homestead Air Reserve Base. The fire began July 29 on the west side of the base. The fire poses no threat to any structure on or off base.

Base officials believe the fire began from a lightning strike. The fire is fueled by thick underbrush. The base fire department is using a water response to extinguish the flames.

Residents of the community should be advised that open flames may be visible from Speedway Blvd. The base fire department is monitoring and working to extinguish the fire continuously.
