Humanitarian Service Medal approved for Task Force Hurricane Sandy Response

The Joint Staff approved the Humanitarian Service Medal (HSM) for service members of the Task Force Hurricane Sandy Response who were physically present and provided humanitarian assistance to the people of New York and New Jersey following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy during the period of 29 October 2012 to 25 November 2012. The HSM is awarded to personnel who distinguished themselves by meritorious direct participation in a significant military act or operation of a humanitarian nature. HOMESTEAD AIR RESERVE BASE, Fla. -- The Joint Staff approved the Humanitarian Service Medal (HSM) for service members of the Task Force Hurricane Sandy Response who were physically present and provided humanitarian assistance to the people of New York and New Jersey following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy during the period of Oct. 29, 2012, to Nov. 25, 2012.

The HSM is awarded to personnel who distinguished themselves by meritorious direct participation in a significant military act or operation of a humanitarian nature. Please have supporting documents to support the request for the HSM added to your records.
