Members of Homestead Air Reserve Base met in the Community Activity Center to hear the prayer message from guest speaker, Navy Captain Ronnie King, command chaplain for U. S. Southern Command in Doral, Fla., as a part of the Prayer Breakfast on Feb. 9.

The Prayer Breakfast was facilitated by the 482nd Fighter Wing Chapel Staff, SouthCom Chapel Staff, Special Operations Command South Chapel Staff, and Homestead Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC).

Pastor Russell and Kerry Black with New Thing Fellowship, Elder Michael Kennedy and Assistant Pastor Daniel Kennedy, with Pembroke Pines Worship Center worked with the chapel staff to bring this event together.

"The message of strength through uncertain times resonated with the Airmen and their friends and family in attendance at this event," said Tech. Sgt. Denise Dunnam, 482nd FW non-commissioned officer of Chapel Services.

As King spoke of trials and the difficult times he has seen, the audience nodded in understanding. When he spoke of the power of prayer everyone shouted out in praise.

"This event was well organized. I enjoyed the message about the importance of prayer," said Maj. Marlon Ferdinand, 482nd Medical Squadron clinical nurse. "I found coming here to be very profound."

King said, "Encouragement is a part of spiritual fitness. Events like this give service members a chance to repair their whole person; mind, body, and spirit. We live in a place where we are free to practice our faith, whatever that may or may not be, and here we are able to express that."

Sandeep Khobragade, a member of the community, said he was happy to be in attendance at this event. He said, "It was amazing to hear the Chaplin, especially the prayer. In my personal life, prayer has been a great benefit."

The Prayer Breakfast will hopefully become an annual event to support the spiritual fitness of our service members.
