With the new Air Force Inspection System, the role of the inspector general has expanded from the focal point for complaint resolution and fraud, waste, and abuse issues to now include planning and execution of the wing commander's inspection program.

New leadership in the inspector general role plans to tackle these changes by building an experienced team of professionals to handle the expanded functions.

"As the new IG, I plan to work with our team to be visible and readily available for those that need help with an issue and to ensure the wing is mission ready and compliant in accordance with the wing commander's vision and our published mission here," said Col. Jeff Davies, 482nd Fighter Wing IG.

Bringing to the table more than 23 years of military experience, Davies has a well-rounded perspective on what needs to be done in both functions of the IG here at Homestead to be successful. Starting out as a dependent, Davies transitioned into the U.S. Air Force first as a maintenance officer, then pilot and on to Air Force Reserve Command Headquarters as a staff officer prior to his assignment to the 482nd FW Operations Group.

As the IG, Davies' role is to aid the wing in ensuring the unit is combat ready to provide people and assets to our country's leaders.

"Our goal as experts in the readiness, compliance, and complaint resolution business is to ensure that every Airman has the necessary training, resources and opportunity to be ready to provide that capability when asked," explained Davies. "Our biggest challenge will be ensuring we have the right people in the IGI and IGQ office's to keep the mission tracking in accordance with Air Force and command guidance."

The IG/IGQ office is located in building 404, room 120, "the Fishbowl", and Davies wants everyone to know that their door is always open for visitors.

"I intend to be readily visible and available to anyone that wants to stop in and talk about a problem or to just say hello," he said. "If I can't help you or don't know an answer, I will do everything in my power to find out who can help you or who might know the answer."
