The 482nd Fighter Wing and 482nd Force Support Squadron are slated to hold the 5th annual Independence Day celebration Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in front of the Heritage Hall Conference Center, building 404.

The free celebration will be open to all Department of Defense employees with a DOD identification card, as well as their families and guests.

"There will be a Black Hawk helicopter from U.S. Customs and Border Protection landing, fire truck, Explosive Ordnance Disposal static displays, and the Homestead Rodeo Queen will make an appearance," said Sheree Chandler, 482nd FSS, business management specialist.

Guests can expect amusements rides, roaming costume characters, music, live performances, and a fireworks show by Firepower Displays.

"It makes us happy knowing everyone is enjoying the event," said Chandler.

The event will also have food and beverages available for purchase. Food services will close at approximately 8 p.m.

Amusement rides are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and close down at 8:15 p.m. to prepare for the fireworks show scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

All guests are asked to stop by Guest Registration to sign in and receive instructions on where to sit, what is available for amusement, and additional safety and security instructions.

"We need to have all guests register. All children and dependents must wear wrist bands with their sponsor's name to help in case of lost persons," said Master Sgt. Francisco Navarro, 482nd FW Honor Guard superintendent.

Guests are encouraged to bring sunscreen, bug spray, lawn chairs, and blankets for seating.

All bags will be subject to search by security forces. Sparklers, explosives, and coolers are prohibited.

"Many volunteers and support personnel from all over the base help us to make this event happen safely and securely," said Navarro. "But the event wouldn't happen without the help of Mr. Gary Avins of Firepower Displays, for supporting our troops and the base with his generous low-cost fireworks show. He has done this for the past 5 years."
