Operations Group receives new commander

Col. David W. Smith assumed command of the 482nd Operations Group in a ceremony on July 13 here.

As group commander, he is responsible for the combat development and training of over 150 Airmen, including Active Duty, Air Reserve Technicians, Traditional Reservists and full-time Civilians in a group consisting of 28 F-16C/D aircraft.

During the ceremony, Smith talked about his dedication to selflessly serving the men and women serving in his charge in order to facilitate their personal success and the success of the mission.

"I am committed to selflessly serving the men and women of the 482nd Operations Group," said Smith during the ceremony.

As the Operations Group commander, he overseas aviators, intelligence, aircrew flight equipment, medical, air traffic control and administrative personnel. He also manages operations training ensuring maximum individual proficiency to facilitate combat deployments in support of the combatant commanders.
