The 93rd Fighter Squadron "Makos" held a change of command ceremony here where Lt. Col. Timothy D. Rusch assumed command of the unit Aug. 2.

Rusch assumes command after serving as director of operations of the 93rd FS. He replaces Lt. Col. David D. Sundlov, who has been commander since January 2013.

According to Col. David Smith, 482nd Operations Group commander, Rusch has the leadership experience to lead the squadron into the future.

"As a man who has flown three different planes and systems while serving in the Air Force Reserve, Rusch brings a tremendous amount of knowledge and dedication to the Makos," said Smith.

"I'm grateful and proud of this opportunity to serve as your commander," said Rusch. "I stand here with a servant's heart, and my door will always be open for anyone who needs me."

As the commander of the Makos, Rusch will lead a fully combat-ready unit capable of providing F-16 fighter aircraft, along with mission ready pilots and support personnel, for short-notice worldwide deployment.

Airmen of the 93rd FS have supported, and continue to support, numerous operations and deployments, flying combat missions in support of the war on terrorism.

The Makos fly more than 5,700 hours and 4,400 sorties each year.

Sundlov has been assigned as the 482nd OG deputy commander.
