Military Affairs Committee honors service members

The Homestead/Florida City Military Affairs Committee honored military and civilian personnel at Homestead Air Reserve Base in a quarterly awards ceremony held at the Community Activity Center here Aug. 7.

Members of the 482nd Fighter Wing, Special Operations Command South, U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team Miami and the Florida Air National Guard were selected for awards. The award timeframe covers April through June 2014.

Community leaders from local businesses, government offices and senior military members came to support the award winners.

During the award presentation, 2nd Lt. Christine Manson, aircraft maintenance officer for the 482nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, pointed out the positive traits of Senior Master Sgt. Leslie L. Brandt, weapons superintendent, 482nd AMXS, speaking to her character, leadership qualities, and humility.

"She reminds me that we are here for the mission and for the people," said Manson.

The mission of the MAC is to assist the military units within the Greater Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce's area to achieve their missions and goals and to promote understanding and cooperation between the civilian and military communities and enhance the quality of life for military personnel and their families in the community.
