Commander nominated to receive a star

The Chief of the Air Force Reserve, Lt. Gen. James F. Jackson, announced today the president has nominated Col. Chris G. Funk for appointment to the rank of brigadier general. Funk is currently serving as Commander, 482nd Fighter Wing, Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida.

Funk assumed command of the 482nd FW in July 2013. As commander, he is directly responsible for overall management of the installation, to include a squadron of 29 F-16C/D aircraft. His leadership span of control encompasses over 2,500 Airmen, including 165 active duty Air Force active association personnel; more than 1,700 traditional reservists, over 280 air reserve technicians and over 280 full-time civilians.

Additionally, he oversees the seamless integration of tenant units to include the Florida Air National Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team, Headquarters Special Operations Command South, 50th Regional Support Group, and a geographically separated Detachment of 35 Airmen at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.

He received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1985 and began his career as an F-16 pilot in 1987. He has served as an operational test and evaluation pilot, fighter squadron director of operations and training, operations group chief of standardization and evaluation, fighter wing weapons and tactics officer, and an operations group commander.

Funk has deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Desert Fox, Allied Force, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He is a command pilot with more thanĀ 4,000 flying hours in multiple aircraft frames including the T-37, T-38, F-16A/B/C/D, and A-10C.
