The Florida Department of Forestry Service will conduct a prescribed fire, also known as controlled burns, on Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida, March 30-31.
The burns were rescheduled from March 9-11.

Community residents are advised the controlled burn could produce plumes of smoke from the south and east portions of the base.

Controlled burns are required to reduce the naturally occurring fire fuel loads like leaves and underbrush, as well as ensure wildlife management, biological community restoration and maintenance. The controlled burn will also increase aircraft flight safety for areas in close proximity to the air field.

Fire department personnel will be on site to protect properties that border the perimeter of the base and manage the controlled burn process.

The controlled burn will be cancelled if the wind conditions are not conducive to a safe controlled burn operation. The community will be notified if wind conditions delay the controlled burn to another timeframe.

For questions regarding the controlled burn, please call the 482nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office at (786) 415-7330 or email at 482FW.PA@us.af.mil.
