The job market in South Florida can be a tough place to navigate, but the Florida Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Hero2Hired employment initiative can help National Guard, Reservist, and spouses seeking new or improved employment in the civilian workforce.

There are five Employment Case Managers in Florida who are trained to assist veterans and spouses with key career preparation activities such as building job specific resumes, performing effective job searches, interviewing and networking.

"We link service members and their spouses with military-friendly employers to promote a faster and more effective career development experience," said Warren Lubow, Employment Case Manager for South Florida. "The real benefit of being a Florida Guard or Reservist is the direct one-on-one, professional, personal service provided by the five H2H case managers strategically placed around the state."

"Our trained H2H case managers have a proven process to help each individual build a resume that is job-specific," explained Lubow. "In this competitive job market they must create a job-specific resume.  On rare occasions, as an additional option, we can refer them to their nearest CareerSource location if they have never prepared a resume and need help actually preparing a resume."

According to Lubow, the CareerSource representatives are equipped with state-of-the-art computerized resume preparation capabilities and they have many local employers contact information with current job listings as well.

Another useful tool on the Department of Veterans Affairs e-benefits website is a military translator link under the Job Seeker section titled "Skills Translator" that helps identify civilian occupations that apply to military experience.

Reservists and Guardsmen can visit and register at: www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits/jobs to find military-friendly employers and resume assistance.

For information on career fairs and resources in the South Florida area, members can contact Lubow at wlubow@ccdcareerconnection.com.

Lubow encourages members to take full advantage of the five H2H Employment Case Managers who are readily available to coach and guide you towards the careers you are seeking.

"They are all well networked within their HR communities and are in high demand due to their ability to have direct access to you, the outstanding military men and women serving our country here in Florida," he said.
