Deactivated in 1945, the 367th Fighter Squadron was reactivated during a ceremony Oct. 23.

Detachment 93, an active duty Air Force unit from the 495th Fighter Group out of Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, attached here, took up the mantle of the 367th FS "Vultures".

The newly reappointed squadron has more than 150 active duty Airmen furthering the Total Force Integration initiative.

The goal of TFI is integrating the active duty Air Force with Guard and Reserve components. Additionally, TFI enhances the Air Force's ability to conduct missions by sharing resources, aircraft, crews and support.

"Total Force Integration came about due to increased pilot absorption needs," said Master Sgt. Jeremy Clements, the 367th FS Superintendent. "By embedding personnel with Guard and Reserve units, RegAF pilots and maintainers alike get access to a wealth of knowledge and experience from our Total Force partners. This integration effort is pivotal to the creation of a balanced, efficient, well-trained Combat Air Force."

The 367th will continue to work alongside their reservists to accomplish their shared mission of combat support operations.

"The 367th FS's role at Homestead is to seamlessly integrate personnel across the wing and enable Team Homestead to 'Answer our nation's call through air, land and sea,'" said Lt. Col. Henry Jeffress, the 367th FS commander. "Activating the 367th FS underneath the 482nd FW demonstrates the Air Force's strategic vision for Homestead. It is an honor and privilege to work hand-in-hand with our Total Force teammates."

The 367th FS dates back to 1943 and was assigned to the 358th Fighter Group at La Junta Army Airfield, Colorado. During that time, the squadron trained P-40 Warhawks and defended the airspace around Philadelphia. Before it was deactivated in 1945, it was part of the Second Air Force and began training with P-47 Thunderbolts.
