5/15/2012 - HOMESTEAD ARB, Fla. -- The base fitness center has relocated to a temporary location across the street from the base inside the old base exchange facility.

"This is a great location for us with plenty of space," said Mr. Herb Tideman, 482nd Services Fitness and Sports Director. "We have plenty of space to spread out all of our equipment."

The facility is equipped with all of the amenities of the previous base gym, except for showers.

"We have lockers for people to store their belongings, changing rooms for both males and females, and enough space for people to spread out," said Tideman.

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Unit Training Assembly Saturday 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 5:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Classes continue at their normal schedule, with a class schedule change announcement slated for June 1.

The $4.5 million renovation of the Sam Johnson Fitness Center is already underway. The project is estimated to take one year to complete and will include a 1,200 square foot expansion, new fitness rooms, a retail shop, a juice bar, steam rooms, massage room, an overhaul of the lighting, electrical systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, along with updating the exterior façade.
