Detachment 1 welcomes new commander

Florida Air National Guard Detachment 1, 125th Fighter Wing, welcomed Maj. Christopher Ball as their new commander during an assumption of command ceremony inside the detachment’s aircraft hangar October 15.

Maj. Ball is a senior pilot with more than 1,300 flying hours in the T-6A, T-38C, F-15C, and F-22A aircraft. He has multiple combat deployments to the Middle East in support of Operations Inherent Resolve, Enduring Freedom, and Freedom Sentinel.

In 2005, Ball graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida. He received his commission in 2007 upon graduation from Officer Training School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

Maj. Ball has served in a multitude of operational fighter assignments throughout the United States and the Pacific Air Forces. Ball transitioned from active duty to the Florida Air National Guard in 2019.

Prior to this assignment, Ball was the Wing Safety Officer with the 125th FW at Jacksonville International Airport, Florida.
